Size is the first decision: 26mm and 31mm suit smaller wrists and skew female-oriented, 36mm is the iconic unisex benchmark, and 41mm targets larger wrists with a sportier proportion. Materials run from Oystersteel through Rolesor two-tone (steel/yellow gold or Everose) to solid gold — each tier carrying a meaningful price step. Bezel style (fluted, smooth, gem-set) and dial type (sunburst, motif, diamond-hour-markers) drive significant spreads within a single reference number. Current references like the 126234 (36mm steel) offer strong secondary-market liquidity. Vintage refs including the 6517 appeal to collectors chasing patina dials and early signed movements. Box and papers materially lift premiums; condition and originality are non-negotiable for value.
The 1945 original established the format. The 1600-series defined the 1960s–70s. The 16xxx caliber-3135 era dominated the 1980s–90s. Mid-2000s introduced the 178xxx/179xxx ladies references. From 2016, the current 126xxx generation brought Syloxi hairsprings, redesigned mid-cases, and updated bracelets.
